Clare Montgomery, Head of Operations & Customer Success

Clare joined CADS in 2014 as Marketing Manager responsible for the company’s digital presence as well as promoting Prosper, CADS’ retail design agency.

Since then Clare has helped develop the business’ internal communications with a Brand Ambassador programme and annual staff survey and is now Head of Operations and Customer Success. In 2019 Clare began studying a partime Executive MBA at Norwich Business School, graduating in July 2022.

What is your role at CADS?

Head of Operations – I am responsible for the development of our StoreSpace software and the team of developers as well as the successful implementation through our Customer Success and Support teams. In addition I also lead the marketing strategy for the business and support on various aspects impacting my teams.

How does CADS support your training and career choice?

CADS has been very supportive in providing training. I have recently completed an executive MBA at Norwich Business School, part of the UEA. By applying my studies to the real life practical world of software development and implementation – I have grown my role applying marketing to the successful development and delivery of StoreSpace.

Why did you choose to work in the technology industry?

I love the excitement surrounding technology, and although I don’t have a technical background, there is definitely a role for someone like me who can bridge the gap and improve communication between technical, sales and operations. It’s a great place to be!

In your opinion, why is it important that more women become involved in the retail technology industry?

Diversity ensures all perspectives are considered and a better technical product is created. Women make up 51% of the worlds population – it is essential that we are involved in the design, development and marketing of products that impact our lives.

What advice would you give to a woman considering working in your industry?

My advice is to choose an aspect you love and look for ways you can build this into your work. Then develop your networks – if you speak to, listen to and discuss ideas with many different people you develop a wide perspective and it will help you continue to learn and be inspired.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing women in your industry?

I think there are many opportunities out there, but women often have to be braver and bolder to grasp them; and thats what I would encourage any woman to do.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

IWD is a great opportunity to celebrate the successes of women across the world developing exciting role models to inspire younger girls.
