Floor plan data integration with Watches of Switzerland’s SAP platform
StoreSpace® provides Aurum Holdings with accurate information on the floor plans of their Goldsmiths, Mappin & Webb and Watches of Switzerland stores
Read this case studyThe Watches of Switzerland Group is a trusted retailer of prestigious luxury watch and jewellery through their operating group of retail showrooms – which includes Goldsmiths, Mappin & Webb and Watches of Switzerland.
Situated in premium locations, every showroom is designed with meticulous attention-to-detail and high-end finishes to create an opulent shopping experience for their clients.
In 2013, the luxury retailer engaged our expert survey team to conduct a comprehensive retail audit of 143 of their UK stores for the purpose of asset management and KPI reporting – followed by an ongoing rolling programme to ensure their store data remains up-to-date.
Using advanced laser scanning technology, we captured extensive data of 143 showrooms across the UK.
The survey was completed as an as-built measured building survey, taking place over 15 weeks from mid-January to the end of April 2013.
Using the captured data, we delivered 2D drawings of each store, featuring details of structures like walls, windows, and doors as well as display counters, wall cases, window displays and fixtures and fittings.
Following the initial survey conducted in 2013, the Watches of Switzerland Group commissioned us to undertake a rolling programme of store visits to ensure their linear meterage and area space records remain up-to-date.
The as-built store condition has been captured every 5-10 years following each subsequent refurbishment project.
In 2023, 30 of 150 total stores in the estate will be surveyed post refurbishment.
Robert Caunt, Showroom Development Support Manager, Watches of Switzerland Group, says:
“I’m still excited about how useful the space data is to the business! We made massive immediate improvements to our space accuracy from where we were in 2012 before we first began working with CADS. Post launch in 2013 we then had a complete picture of the entire retail estate space fully aligned with our merchandise hierarchy. StoreSpace® provides detailed area and linear space data by merchandise category into our SAP system for 200 luxury watch and jewellery showrooms in July 2023, across UK, EU and USA.”
The relationship between CADS and the Watches of Switzerland Group is critical as CADS has been the single supplier of all our KPI area (m2) and linear space (mm) data for over 10 years. CADS was a market leader in 2012 and still is now. CADS has been our survey supplier of choice because they provide a fantastic, reliable, and quick responsive service. In terms of working together in the future, I'm very optimistic. I'm looking forward to the next 10 years!
Maximising available space is key in retail – and the 2D drawings we continue to deliver play a crucial role in helping the Watches of Switzerland Group make the most of their retail space.
The deliverables give staff visibility of their stores and showrooms, including details of their counters, wall cases and window spaces.
This insight is used by multiple departments across the business – including finance, merchandising, visual merchandising, showroom development teams and e-commerce – and is key to their KPI reporting.
Not only does it help with monitoring sales and stock data for budgeting, forecasting and tracking performance, but it informs space management, space utilisation and merchandising too.
As well as enabling the Watches of Switzerland Group to track their KPIs, the as-built survey data and subsequent 2D drawing deliverables we provided act as valuable retail estate records.
With the survey data we provided, the Watches of Switzerland Group have seen significant improvements in their efficiency and space management.
Robert Caunt says:
“The as-built survey data, photographs and detailed merchandise layout plans provide support teams and key stakeholders with visibility of each showroom. This saves an awful lot of store visits and ultimately time, and that’s why I’m so pleased with the data we receive.”
The Watches of Switzerland Group is also CADS StoreSpace® software clients, meaning they benefit from optimised store layouts with our innovative retail space planning software.
