Great Yarmouth-based role requring one day per week in office in line with our newly introduced Hybrid working policy.


40 hours per week - flexibility outside of core hours

We are looking for a skilled Database and Services Engineer to join our growing team of talented developers, to maintain and develop SQL server databases and associated service applications for StoreSpace®, our commercially successful macro space planning solution.

Although this role requires several years’ experience, the successful candidate will be working alongside knowledgeable and experienced engineers as a critical member of the team.

Internal training and mentoring by other IS department personnel will also be provided.

Main duties

  • Continue to develop the StoreSpace® SQL Server databases and associated services that collect, collate, and report on data from multiple sources.
  • Work closely with developers to create and update stored procedures, views, and user defined functions to meet current needs and future requirements.
  • Work closely with the testing team to create solutions to bugs and anomalies.
  • Implementation of SQL Server instances and IIS with associated web applications on new server platforms including both Azure and UK DC hosted VMs.
  • Design and maintain SQL server scheduled tasks for Back-Up, Maintenance and Data Clean Up routines.
  • Careful documentation of completed work.
  • Work to the timelines imposed by our JIRA work-flow management system.

Required skills

3+ years’ commercial experience

Microsoft SQL Server

  • SQL Server Management Studio
  • SQL Server Agent
  • SQL Server Profiler
  • Maintenance Plans
  • Backup and Restore, Security Roles etc
  • T-SQL coding for Stored Procedures, User Defined Tables, User Defined Functions etc
  • T-SQL design concepts including Common Table Expressions, Transaction Rollbacks etc.
  • T-SQL Debugging techniques
  • Awareness of SQL Server performance analysis

Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server

  • VS C# Web Application and Services projects.
  • VS C# debugging techniques.
  • VS Database projects
  • TFS Project maintenance within a development team


  • Working with Agile methodologies.
  • Working within a busy software development team.
  • Good knowledge of MS Teams and Microsoft Office products
